El Jardìn de Senderos que se Bifurcan
". . . No one realized that the book and the labyrinth
were one and the same . . ."
Welcome to the Garden of Forking Paths, the section of
the Libyrinth devoted to Jorge Luis Borges.
Note: I have just finished revising
my Joyce site, The Brazen Head, and this site is next on my shedule. I am
currently updating its appearance, revising and expand much of the material,
and adding a few new surprises as well. I am looking at the mid-January
as a deadline. In the meantime, I'd like to thank everybody out there for
the tremendous support this site has been getting; please continue to send
me your comments, suggestions, and criticism. If you want to see the kind
of changes I am making, take a peek at The Brazen Head!
I, unfortunately, am Borges -- Who was
Jorge Luis Borges? The standard biography, with a timeline of his life and
an explanation of historical events that helped shape his writing.
Games with time and infinity -- A complete
bibliography, with a short synopsis and review of his major works. Includes
collaborations, poetry, and works only available in Spanish.
dhcmrlchtdj -- Random combinations of
letters that have meaning -- a collection of unsettling and profound quotations
from Borges' works of fiction, nonfiction, and lectures. In another universe,
these are probably recipes, or instructions on how to build a bicycle.
The Crimson Hexagon -- A fictional
bookshelf, containing all the volumes Borges never wrote. I give you my
word, however, that they are just as valid as the books he did write.
One generation of Tlnists would be enough
-- Other artists and writers that have been influenced or make mention of
Borges.
To refute him is to become contaminated with
unreality -- Analysis, biography and criticism: a list of books about
Borges and his works.
How easy it would be not to think
of a tiger! -- An online gallery of Borges images, some tweaked by a
computer to make very surreal postcards.
His descendants still seek, nor will they find, the one word that
contains the universe -- The Jorge Luis Borges Center: Maintained
by my friend Ivan Almeida, the Borges Center's magnificent web page is based
from the University of Aarhus in Denmark. The JLBC is dedicated to the research
of works by Borges, the study of themes and the style of thinking found
in his work, and the compilation and translation of works by and about Borges.
A translucent network of minimal surprises
-- Links to other sites around the net pertaining to Borges.
He was not working for posterity or even
for God, whose literary tastes were unknown to him -- A very comprehensive
catalog of Borges works and Borges-related titles, directly available for
ordering online through Amazon.com Books.
Special Note: A new biography of Borges has just been published.
Called Borges: A Life, I will review it and post more information
on the upcoming update.
Older Note: The Largely Literary design company, known
for their clever but bizarre literary caricatures designed to graceT-shirts
and coffee mugs, has recently issued a T-shirt with a delightfully grotesque
caricature of Jorge Luis Borges on the front. (ISBN 1-56658-269-5) It is
available through: Largely Literary Designs, Chapel Hill, NC.
Most large bookstores can usually order them.

nought, one. -- Return to the Omphalos
